Ten Tiny Breaths (Ten Tiny Breaths, #1)

Ten Tiny Breaths (Ten Tiny Breaths, #1) - K.A. Tucker Let me just say wow. I went into this book expecting a good read and was blown away. When car accident survivor Kacey and her sister Livie run away from their “Christian” aunt and her drunk, almost molester husband and move to California, things change in ways they didn’t foresee. Livie gets to start over a whole new school. Her sister Kacey goes from working at Starbucks to waitressing at a strip club her new and unexpected best friend Storm works and performs at, practicing her kickboxing at a male dominated, testosterone ridden gym, and let’s not forget living next to the sexy Trent, a constant pendulum between good guy and fiery bad boy. Kacey is sure she’s going to get more than they bargained for. Kacey had spent all her life after the accident locking out everyone other than her little sister. It worked well until she met Trent. Suddenly her entire life is on its side and the walls she spent so long building are simply blown away the second she meets him. I really enjoyed getting to know Kacey and understanding why she was the way she was. It made every second she spent getting closer to Trent and realizing she couldn’t shut him out that much sweeter. He was patient with her all the way through, despite a misguided attempt to make her go to therapy. I grew to love both her and Trent, as well as Livie and Storm and her daughter as they helped her through her battles and made her realize it was time to move on. There was a bit of a scare at the ending where I thought it wouldn’t have ended well, but that was resolved quickly and I later realized it was necessary, especially with the wonderful twist towards the end of the book. It wasn’t too fast pace but still didn’t drag. I would definitely reread it, so it gets a 4 from me.(I was given a copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.)Darker Passions
